Oscar Sudi Threatens to Sue Morara, Demands Apology

Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi, through a law firm named Malimo and Njoroge, has threatened to sue Morara Kebaso, the leader of the Inclusion of National Justice, Economic, and Civic Transformation (INJECT) Party.

Sudi in a demand letter claims that Kebaso made defamatory remarks in a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

In a post shared on Sunday, December 29, Morara indicated the law firm representing Sudi issued a stern demand letter to him for what they describe as a “malicious and reckless” defamation of their client.

The letter states, “We represent Hon. Oscar Kipchumba Sudi, the sitting Member of Parliament for Kapseret Constituency, whose reputable standing, earned through years of public service and business acumen, you have maliciously and recklessly defamed through your publication on X dated December 22, 2024, at 11:21 AM.”

The controversy arose from Kebaso’s post on December 22, where he shared images of Sudi alongside artist Kasmuel McOure.

According to the law firm, the accompanying text suggested that Sudi was involved in the tragic killing of Gen Z protesters for personal gain during the anti-finance bill demonstrations, sparking significant public reaction due to Kebaso’s large following on X.

Kebaso’s post included multiple photographs, one of which depicted Hon. Sudi in conversation with Kasmuel McOure.

The demand letter, dated December 28, 2024, listed several grievances namely:

  1. Defamation by Direct Reference and Innuendo: The post allegedly portrayed Hon. Sudi as a murderer, profiteer, dishonest leader, and corrupt associate, implicating him in a criminal conspiracy through the use of images and inflammatory statements.
  2. Particulars of Malice: Kebaso is accused of publishing these remarks without fact-checking and being fully aware of the severe implications on Sudi’s reputation. The use of Sudi’s photographs is described as deliberate, aimed at inciting public hatred.

The law firm presented three demands to Kebaso following his social media post including a written, unconditional, and unreserved apology, an immediate admission of liability, followed by discussions regarding damages, and a commitment from Kebaso not to publish any further defamatory content about the Kapseret legislator.
