Mount Kenya East Members of Parliament (MPs)led by Mbeere lawmaker Geoffrey Ruku have endorsed Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki as their regional kingpin.
MP Ruku while addressing a press conference on September 9 said CS Kindiki will act as a link between them and the Executive.
The Mbeere legislator was accompanied by various leaders including Tigania East Member of Parliament Mpuru Aburi and Igembe South counterpart Paul Mwirigi.
Ruku’s statement comes at a time when Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently announced former President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mount Kenya region kingpin.
The legislator while endorsing Kindiki who hails from the region highlighted that Mount Kenya East has significant voting numbers making them critical in shaping political and development direction.
He also said that the national development projects should reflect the contributions they have made towards the government.
MPs settle for Kindiki as Mt Kenya Kingpin
By settling for Kindiki, the Mount Kenya East leadership hopes to reap more benefits from the government since one of their own serves there.

This comes after DP Gachagua claimed that former President Kenyatta remains the Mount Kenya kingpin.
Gachagua made the claim while speaking during a church service in Meru County.
The second in command said Uhuru told the region to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the 2022 general elections, but they didn’t listen to him but now they have heeded his advice.

The DP added that the Mt. Kenya region has studied politics and decided never to hate any politician or community again.
He emphasized that to thrive in Kenyan politics, the region must build friendships with other politicians and communities.
“As a region, we have learned politics well. We have discussed this with elders and bishops, and we have agreed to avoid hatred towards anyone or any community, as it only leads to loss. We now understand that building friendships is key to thriving in Kenya,” he said.
Gachagua’s differences with other leaders
Gachagua has for a while faced criticism from leaders hailing from his Mount Kenya backyard led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah.
Ichungwah recently argued that DP Gachagua has allegedly been party to those people exploiting tea farmers.
The Majority Leader made the remarks while speaking to residents in Mathioya, Murang’a County on Sunday.
“We will not allow anyone to participate in politics with our votes. Our votes are for seeking a government that will work for us,” he stated.
“Then you tell us to unite so that you may auction our votes for your own benefit.”
