President William Ruto’s aides and top leaders in the executive splashed millions during an economic empowerment program hosted by Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi.
During the event held on June 6, 2025, in Kapseret, the leaders stepped forward one by one, each holding bundles of cash to demonstrate their support for the initiative.
“My friends and I have come to support the people of Kapseret. Let me make it clear, there is no government money involved. This is purely from our own pockets, and out of friendship,” Sudi said.
Sudi revealed that he and three of his friends from Tanzania raised Ksh45 million to purchase equipment to support local businesses.
Prominent Leaders at the Event
The event was graced by, among others, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kikuyu Constituency, Kimani Ichung’wah, Nominated Member of Parliament, Sabina Chege, Governor of Uasin Gishu, Jonathan Bii Chelilim, and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi.
Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury John Mbadi and Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina were also present.

Oscar Sudi Gets Millions for Empowerment Program
President William Ruto led the way with a personal donation of Ksh 2 million while Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot contributed Ksh 500,000.
On his part, Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet offered Ksh 300,000 in support of the initiative.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah added Ksh1 million to the effort, and Nominated MP Sabina Chege gave Ksh 200,000. At the same time, Jonathan Bii contributed Ksh 1 million.
Betty Maina (Murang’a Woman Rep) and Eric Wamumbi (Mathira MP) also joined in with a combined contribution of Ksh 500,000.
At the same time, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) showed up with generous contributions, with the least donation being Ksh 10,000.

Other Institutions Donate
Also in attendance were representatives of various financial institutions including Co-operative Bank and KCB.
KCB donated Ksh2 million, while Co-operative Bank and other institutions like Mount Kenya university also chipped in. Several individuals also dug deep into their pockets, offering hundreds of thousands in support of the empowerment initiative.
The initiative aims to empower small-scale entrepreneurs, including women in informal businesses such as ‘mama mboga’ and youth in the boda boda sector, by providing financial support and business equipment to help them grow their ventures and improve livelihoods.
