CS Namwamba Clarifies Why Talanta Hela App is Not Active

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has explained that The Talanta Hela App exists but has not been activated.

While appearing before the Members of the National Assembly on Wednesday, August 23, CS Namwamba said the Talanta system is ready after it was launched President William Ruto.

“What was ignited by the president at State House on June 9 was the system, and the system is ready.

I can confirm to this house that there was a challenge that caused a delay in the completion of the screening room,” said CS Namwamba.

Further, CS Namwamba said the Talanta Hela App is a process commencing from taking a clip, putting it to the system where it is transmitted to a screening centre.

Namwamba the screening Centre suffered procurement delays and it will be completed September 4,2023.

“The Talanta Hela system exists only that it has not been activated,” said CS Namwamba.

“The reason I need to clarify this is because at the moment you activate it, you will start sending content which will not have a destination,” added Namwamba.

In addition, CS Namwamba said the Talanta Hela Initiative is not just about the app but is a series of activities.

Namwamba on Corruption

CS Namwamba explained that the ministry has changed the procedure of sending money to athletes to avoid corruption.

“I want to inform this house that because of previous cases of misappropriation of money meant for athletes, we have changed the procedure and now we send money for athletes directly to them.

It takes a bit of time to get the details, but we always make sure that they receive it.” He explained.

Namwamba on Kit

Namwamba said the issue of kits is important because it touches on copyright and intellectual property which are tightly guarded.

” I want to confirm that the team in Tunisia and the one in Budapest, I flagged them off myself and they were in their official Nike kits.

 I am willing to get confirmation from Athletics Kenya, National Olympic Commitee, I can commit to this house to bring here a confirmation from them on the agreement they have with Nike,” said the CS.

CS Namwamba has been facing allegations of misusing the Sports docket from a section of the Kenya Kwanza MPs.
