Murkomen Appoints Ghost Mulee & Myke Rabar in Latest Govt Appointments

Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday, December 6, made several state appointments. 

In a gazette notice dated December 6, Murkomen appointed a multi-agency team to spearhead the preparations for the 2025 CHAN tournament and 2027 AFCON which are expected to be hosted by Kenya together with other countries within East Africa region.

“Now therefore, the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the Executive Order No. 2 of 2023 and the Sports Act, 2013 do establish the Pamoja CHAN 2024 and Pamoja AFCON 2027 Multi Agency Team,” the gazette notice read.

Among the persons appointed by the Sports CS include Radio Jambo Presenter, Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee and Homeboyz Radio CEO Myke Rabar.

According to the gazette notice, Mulee will serve as a member of the National Steering Committee, while Rabar will serve as the Head of the Secretariat of the CHAN-AFCON MAT.

The Secretariat, which comprises nine members, shall be domiciled at the Ministry of Sports, Talanta Plaza, Upper Hill, P.O. Box 49849-00100, Nairobi, and will assist in the day-to-day management of its affairs.

It comprises the following members:

  • Patrick Korir, FKF Secretary-General, Deputy Head of Secretariat
  • Dennis Kinyua
  • Natasha Nyakundi (Ms.)
  • Lorna Misoi (Ms.)
  • Ivy Kittony (Ms.)
  • Jack Mukhongo Munialo
  • Jimmy Lorot Lokolong
  • Nicole Mwende (Ms.)

On his part, Murkomen will be part of the Project Oversight Council, which will consist of five members, including:

  • The Principal Secretary (PS) responsible for Sports,
  • The PS for the Ministry of Defence or their representative,
  • The PS for the National Treasury or their representative,
  • The PS for the State Department for Transport or their representative.

Veteran Sports Journalist Elias Makori among state appointees

Other notable people who have been appointed are former Secretary General of the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), Stephen Musonye, and veteran sports journalist Elias Makori, who are part of a 22-member National Steering Committee.

Musonye will be the chairperson of the committee, and Makori will be a member of the committee.

The gazette notice after CAF representatives visited Kenya to evaluate the preparedness of venues and facilities for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The CHAN event is set for February 2025 and will involve co-hosting by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
