Four Kenyan referees have been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Egypt and Angola.
The match, which will be played at Cairo International Stadium, on Friday, September 25, at 10 pm (EAT), will mark the opening fixture of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign for both teams.
Peter Waweru Kamaku has been appointed as the centre referee and will be responsible for overseeing the match.
He will be assisted by fellow Kenyans Stephen Yiembe and Gilbert Cheruiyot, who have been named the first and second assistant referees respectively.

Dickens Mimisa completes the Kenyan officiating team after being appointed as the fourth official.
The appointments place four Kenyan match officials at the centre of a major continental fixture as Egypt and Angola meet in their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
Kamaku has previously handled international matches, while the inclusion of Yiembe, Cheruiyot and Mimisa adds to Kenya’s representation in African football officiating.
The Egypt-Angola fixture in Cairo will therefore provide another international assignment for the Kenyan officials as they take charge of proceedings in the AFCON qualifiers.
Peter Waweru Official Assignments
The four officials have established themselves on the continental scene, having handled matches in major CAF competitions, including the AFCON, CHAN, CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
Peter Waweru led a team of Kenyan referees tasked with officiating a crucial round of 16 clash pitting Cameroon against South Africa in January 4, 2026, in Morocco.
He was assisted by Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe as the two match assistant referees.

The trio was previously involved in overseeing the Group B tie pitting Angola against Zimbabwe at the Stade de Marrakech on December 26, 2025.
Another Kenyan official, Dickens Mimisa, was in charge of the VAR duties in the controversial group tie pitting South Africa against Egypt that ended with the Pharaohs edging the Bafana Bafana 1-0 to advance to the knockout stages.
Prior to these assignments, Kamaku also served as the fourth official in the South Africa vs. Angola match, which ended 2–1 in favour of South Africa.
Stephen Yiembe
Yiembe recently added another major assignment to his growing profile when he was part of the officiating team for the UEFA Super Cup clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa in Austria.
The showpiece match was played on August 12 at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany, making Yiembe the first Kenyan referee ever appointed to officiate in a UEFA competition.
The Nakuru-born official served as an Assistant Referee Two in an all-East African officiating team led by Somalia’s Omar Artan as the centre referee.
His latest recognition followed an impressive run of high-profile international assignments, including the FIFA Club World Cup, where he served as assistant referee in the group-stage match between Real Madrid and Austrian champions RB Salzburg in Philadelphia.
That was his second appointment at the tournament, having earlier officiated the clash between Juventus and Urawa Red Diamonds, highlighting FIFA’s growing confidence in his abilities on the global stage.
Beyond FIFA competitions, Yiembe has also featured prominently in elite CAF tournaments, officiating major CAF Champions League matches, including semi-finals involving African heavyweights Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns.
He also represented Kenya at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Egypt vs Angola Head to Head
Egypt and Angola have faced each other eight times, with Egypt unbeaten in all eight meetings. The Pharaohs have recorded four wins, while the other four encounters ended in draws.
Their most recent meeting came at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and ended in a goalless draw. The two sides also played to a 2-2 draw in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier before Egypt secured a 1-0 home victory in 2021.
The Pharaohs will be aiming to begin their qualifying campaign with a win, while Angola will be looking to maintain their competitive record against Egypt.
The match marks the start of the race to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
