Ivory Coast face Norway on June 30 in a high-stakes Round of 32 encounter of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM EAT.

The match will take place at the Dallas Stadium, Arlington, a rare and intriguing contest between two nations that have never met in international football.

With no head-to-head history to draw from, both teams enter the tie with a clean slate.

There are no past tactical patterns, psychological edges, or historical reference points, meaning the outcome will be determined purely by execution on the day.

Such scenarios often produce open and competitive matches, particularly in knockout football where caution and ambition must be carefully balanced.

Ivory Coast and Norway’s Road to Round of 32

Ivory Coast booked their place in the Round of 32 after a steady and disciplined group-stage campaign that yielded six points from three matches.

They sealed qualification in style with a 2-0 win over Curacao in their final group match, confirming a second-place finish in Group E.

Norway also progressed with six points and came second in Group I.

They confirmed the spot with a convincing 3-2 win over Senegal.

Haaland proved decisive once again with two goals in the 48th and 58th minutes.

Ivory Coast bring far more World Cup experience into this contest, having appeared in multiple recent editions of the tournament.

The West African side made their debut in 2006 and returned in 2010 and 2014, building a reputation as a competitive but often unfortunate team.

Despite boasting a “golden generation” that included Didier Drogba, Yaya Touré and Gervinho, Ivory Coast were eliminated in the group stage in all three appearances.

Norway’s World Cup history is more limited but includes one standout achievement.

The European side has qualified for the tournament three times, in 1938, 1994 and 1998, with the 1998 edition marking their best performance.

In France 1998, Norway reached the Round of 16, famously defeating Brazil 2-1 in the group stage to secure qualification.

However, they were eliminated in the knockout stage by Italy.

That remains their only progression beyond the group phase.

Likely Line-ups, Matchday Tactics, and Players to Watch

Under coach Emerse Fae, Ivory Coast are difficult to break down and tend to grow into matches.

He trusts experienced players like Franck Kessié to lead on the pitch while allowing attacking players the freedom to attack once the ball is won.

Ståle Solbakken brings a structured and methodical approach to Norway.

Since taking charge, he has focused on building a team that is tactically disciplined and efficient in both attack and defense.

His biggest strength is organization, but his system relies heavily on execution, particularly in creating scoring opportunities for Haaland.

Under Ståle Solbakken, Norway prefer to control possession, create fewer but high-quality chances, and maintain defensive shape at all times.

Players to watch could prove decisive in a match likely to be settled by fine margins.

For Norway, much of the focus will be on Erling Haaland, whose presence in the box remains a constant threat.

His movement, strength and clinical finishing make him the team’s primary outlet in decisive moments.

Alongside him, Martin Ødegaard will be crucial in dictating play, linking midfield to attack and creating scoring opportunities with his vision and passing range.

For Ivory Coast, Franck Kessié remains central to their approach, providing the balance between defense and attack and having scored the only and winning goal in the loss against Germany.

His ability to break up play, win duels and drive forward from midfield will be key in disrupting Norway’s rhythm.

But much of the attention will be on Yan Diomande, who has emerged as one of Ivory Coast’s most influential attacking players in this tournament. His ability to carry the ball, create chances and impact games in decisive moments has given the team an added edge in the final third.

Out wide, Simon Adingra offers pace and creativity, with the ability to stretch the game and unlock tight defensive setups through direct running.

Amad Diallo adds another dimension to the attack, with the Manchester United winger bringing sharp movement, close control, and the confidence to take on defenders in one-on-one situations, making him a potential gamechanger.

Likely Line-ups

Ivory Coast (4-3-3):
Fofana
Singo, Kossounou, Ndicka, Konan
Kessié, Sangaré, Fofana
Pépé, Haller, Adingra

Norway (4-3-3):
Nyland

Ryerson, Ajer, Østigård, Meling
Berge, Berg, Ødegaard
Nusa, Haaland, Sørloth

The South Americans Have Done Enough To Secure One Of The Best Third-Placed Spots And Will Now Await Their Round Of 32 Opponents. Sweden (28Th) Sweden Could Not Replicate The Form That Saw Them Thrash Tunisia In Their Opening Match, But A Draw Against Japan Proved Sufficient. Four Points Should Comfortably Send The Scandinavians Into The Knockout Stages. Bosnia And Herzegovina (61St) Bosnia And Herzegovina Is Currently The Lowest-Ranked Nation Among The Third-Placed Teams In Contention, But A Draw Against Canada And A Victory Over Qatar Delivered Four Points In Group B. Bosnia And Herzegovina Has Already Secured A Round Of 32 Clash With The United States. Paraguay (37Th) Paraguay’s Campaign Has Been A Roller-Coaster. After Suffering A Heavy Defeat To The United States, They Bounced Back With A Victory Over Türkiye Before Settling For A Draw Against Australia. The Result Was Enough To Keep Them In Third Place And Firmly On Course For Qualification. Senegal (18Th) Senegal Were Tipped To Challenge France For Top Spot In Group I But Opened With Defeats To Both France And Norway. However, A Commanding 5-0 Victory Over Iraq Significantly Boosted Their Goal Difference And Put Them In A Strong Position To Qualify. Croatia (13Th) The 2018 Finalists Suffered An Early Setback With A Defeat To England, But Still Have A Chance To Climb Above Third Place. Given Their Lofty Fifa Ranking Of 13Th, Croatia Would Be One Of The Strongest Teams To Emerge From The Third-Place Route. South Korea (23Rd) South Korea’s Campaign Has Been Disappointing, With Defeats To Mexico And South Africa Leaving Them Vulnerable. Despite Sitting Inside The Top Eight For Now, The Koreans Must Rely On Results Elsewhere. Algeria (29Th) Algeria Remains One Of The Best-Placed Teams Outside The Qualification Places. Victory Over Austria In Their Final Group J Fixture Would Guarantee Progression, While Even A Draw Could Prove Enough To Advance. Scotland (41St) Scotland Began With A Victory Over Haiti But Failed To Pick Up Points Against Morocco And Brazil. Their Inferior Goal Difference Leaves Them In A Precarious Position, And They Can Only Wait And Hope Other Results Fall In Their Favour. Dr Congo (46Th) Dr Congo Is The Biggest Outsider Among The Remaining Contenders. However, Victory Over Uzbekistan In Their Final Group K Match Would Move Them To Four Points And Significantly Improve Their Chances Of Reaching The Knockout Stages. Eliminated: Uruguay’s Early Exit Even With The World Cup Expanded To 48 Teams, Uruguay Has Failed To Reach The Knockout Stages. The South Americans Drew With Both Saudi Arabia And Cabo Verde Before Losing To Spain In A Match That Could Have Seen Them Top Group H With A Victory. The Uruguayans’ Winless Campaign Makes Them The Highest-Ranked Nation, At 19Th In The World, To Be Eliminated Before The Round Of 32.
