Kenyan middle-distance runner and Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi was recently seen driving a KSh 5.6M 2026 Honda Prelude on the streets of Monaco, showcasing the new generation of Honda’s iconic sports coupe.

The 2026 Prelude combines hybrid efficiency with performance-oriented engineering, marking a significant evolution from its previous models.

The car is set to reach dealerships in early 2026, drawing attention for its combination of speed, technology, and sleek design.

2026 Honda Prelude Performance and Unique Specs

The 2026 Honda Prelude features a 2.0-litre inline‑4 hybrid engine paired with dual electric motors, delivering a combined output of 200 HP and 232 lb‑ft of torque.

It employs a front-wheel-drive layout with Honda’s eCVT system and S+ Shift technology, providing a simulated multi-gear driving experience without a traditional transmission.

The vehicle’s chassis incorporates Type R performance hardware, including dual-axis front struts, multi-link rear suspension, and adaptive dampers for improved handling.

Braking is handled by Brembo 4-piston front callipers, enhancing stopping power during spirited driving.

The Prelude’s 2-door coupe body features a hatchback-style rear, offering practicality alongside its sporty styling.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built in, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Additional features include an 8-speaker Bose audio system and wireless charging, as well as modern driver-assistance technologies depending on the regional specification.

Price, Availability and How to Order

The official U.S. MSRP for the 2026 Prelude is $43,195, equivalent to approximately KSh 5.6 million.

Early reports suggest some dealerships may apply markups due to high demand, potentially increasing the final purchase price.

The Prelude is offered in a single, fully equipped trim, simplifying the ordering process but limiting customisation options.

The 2026 Prelude can be ordered through authorised Honda dealerships.

Buyers outside the U.S. should consider import duties, shipping fees, and local regulations for hybrid vehicles, which may affect availability and total cost.

Distinctive Features of the 2001 Honda Prelude

The 2026 Honda Prelude is a significant departure from the 2001 Prelude, introducing modern hybrid performance and advanced technology. While the 2001 model relied on naturally aspirated 2.2–2.3 litre engines with manual or automatic transmissions, the 2026 version features a 2.0-litre hybrid inline-4 with dual electric motors, producing 200 HP and 232 lb‑ft of torque through a front-wheel-drive eCVT system with Honda S+ Shift.

Chassis and suspension have also evolved. The 2001 Prelude used a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link setup for sporty handling. In contrast, the 2026 model incorporates Type R-inspired hardware, adaptive dampers, and Brembo 4-piston front brakes, enhancing cornering and overall driving dynamics.

In terms of body and practicality, the 2001 Prelude was a traditional 2-door coupe with a trunk. The 2026 Prelude adopts a hatchback-style coupe design, offering improved cargo space while maintaining a sporty profile.

The interior reflects the technological leap. The 2001 version had analogue gauges, basic stereo, and manual climate control. In contrast, the 2026 model features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch infotainment screen with Google built in, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bose audio, and advanced driver-assistance systems.
