The festive season is already here with most Kenyans travelling upcountry in the famous ‘Urban to Rural migration’. However, the season has been disadvantaged by the currently experienced El Nino rains in the country.
Meanwhile the number of Kenyans who have succumbed to the aftermath of the ongoing El Nino rains has been on a steady rise after three more persons died by 6th December.

The Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura in Friday’s emergency response update, said the three fatalities were reported in Tharaka Nithi, Nandi and Migori counties.
According to government spokesperson, the three Kenyans who succumbed to the ongoing floods has brought the death toll to 168 nationwide.

Festive Season El Nino Adress by Govt
Likewise, the government has urged Kenyans to be vigilant while making trips during the festivity season adding that the rains are set to increase from Mid-December.

“We urge Kenyans to remain vigilant and take precautions. The Meteorological department forecast shows that rains will increase in intensity from mid-December, and we advise Kenyans in flood-prone areas to move to higher grounds,” said Mwaura.
At the time the Government Spokesman asked Kenyans to keep off the travels unless it is extremely necessary.
“Majority of the roads are impassable, unless it is extremely necessary it is advisable that you keep off these roads all together until such a time when they are fully restored,” said Mwaura.
What to Carry While Travelling During Festive Season
Likewise, the government spokesperson issued a number of safety precautions while travelling during the heavy rainy season.
Among the necessary things to carry while on the road include warm outfits, due to the changing weather across the country.

On the other hand, drivers are advised to carry necessary mechanical kits while on the road.
Having a mechanical kit comes in handy in case a vehicle breaks down within flood prone areas and cannot access assistance.
At the same time travelers are urged to have portable lighting systems like torches which could come in handy in case you get stuck by the road in the night.
In addition, travelers are advised to carry with them medication in case they are stuck in an impressable road and are in need of medical attention.
Similarly, the government spokesman while making his address also called on Kenyans travelling during the current cold season to carry at least warm food.
