The Kenya Transporters Association (KTA), on July 14, issued a safety advisory to all truck drivers operating along the Nimule–Juba Highway in South Sudan, cautioning them against movement past 4:00 PM due to increased insecurity along the route.
In a statement, the association cited recent engagements with South Sudan government representatives, which revealed that most criminal incidents affecting truckers occur during evening and night hours.
“To enhance safety, all truck movement beyond 16:00 hrs is strictly discouraged. Reports indicate that most criminal incidents occur during evening and night hours,” the advisory read in part.
As a result, the KTA strongly discouraged any truck movement beyond 1600 hours and urged all transporters to prioritize safety by observing the directive.
Transporters Directed to Park in Safe Areas by 4 PM
Transporters were also instructed to ensure that their trucks are parked in secure locations by the stated time to avoid exposure to criminal activity along the highway, which has recently experienced a rise in reported incidents of theft, attacks, and harassment targeting cargo trucks and drivers.
The association further directed drivers or transport operators who encounter challenges, threats, or harassment while using the route to reach out for assistance promptly.

“If you experience any challenges, threats, or harassment while on the route, do not hesitate to contact Mercy Ireri at 0716 209 084 for assistance,” the KTA Chairman Newton Wang’oo advised.
The contact is expected to serve as a direct link for support and coordination during emergencies.
Traders Urged to Cooperate as KTA Calls for Safety Measures
The advisory was part of wider efforts to protect transporters and reduce losses linked to insecurity.
The association urged continued collaboration between government agencies, security officials, and the private sector to secure transit routes and guarantee the safety of goods and personnel.
This comes amid ongoing concerns from regional transporters over the safety of moving goods through South Sudan’s major highways.
The Nimule–Juba Road is one of the key corridors linking Kenyan transporters to markets in South Sudan but has remained vulnerable to security threats from criminal groups, especially after dark.
