The United States (US) Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the government has begun visa revocations for foreign nationals accused of publicly celebrating the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
While speaking to the press, he said that America will not tolerate what he described as “negative and destructive behavior” from visitors.
Kirk, a vocal conservative commentator and a close ally of President Donald Trump, was gunned down on September 10, 2025, during a speech at Utah Valley University in Utah.
The Trump administration, through Secretary Rubio, has responded with a crackdown.
“We are not in the business of inviting people to visit our country who are going to be involved in negative and destructive behavior,” Rubio declared.

US on Monitoring Social Media
According to Rubio, the State Department has begun monitoring social media platforms for celebratory posts from foreign nationals, encouraging the public to report accounts and working with law enforcement to identify violators.
Those discovered to have mocked or endorsed Kirk’s killing are being targeted for deportation if they are already in the US, while others abroad are being denied entry altogether.
“Why should we allow someone to come to America as a student or whatever, and then have them live under different standards?
“Visitors to the US must follow very high standards. You shouldn’t bring people into this country who celebrate the murder, the execution, the assassination of a political figure,” he added.
Deportation proceedings have already begun for foreign nationals on visas who posted celebratory comments online.
However, the State Department has not yet disclosed how many individuals have been affected.
“If they are already here, we should be revoking their visa,” Rubio said.

Trump Calls for Death Penalty in Charlie Kirk Killing
On Friday, September 12, Trump demanded the death penalty for the suspect accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, describing his longtime ally as the finest person who didn’t deserve to die.
Later that evening, Kirk’s widow, Erika, delivered an emotional address from her late husband’s podcast studio.
“You have no idea the fire you have ignited within this wife. The cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.”
When asked how the country could heal after the Utah campus shooting, Trump blamed political extremism, accusing the left of pushing vicious and horrible agendas such as open borders and transgender rights.
“The radicals on the right are radical because they don’t want to see crime,” he added.
