Wekesa has the backing of an alliance between former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and current Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga. While Vincent Maunda is backed by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula, who is also the leader of the Ford Kenya party.
Chaos Erupts in the constituency
On Saturday, 22, which was the final day of the campaign, Chaos erupted in the constituency after Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya visited the constituency in support of the independent candidate Wekesa.
While addressing the crowd, chaos erupted after the alleged goons’ invasion. The police used teargas to disperse the youths, which led to injuries, including Natembeya’s driver. Also, Majimbo Kalasinga’s house was attacked and vandalized by unknown assailants.
Governor Natembeya shared a video on his X showing damage made on Kalasinga’s house, including broken windows.

Natembeya, alongside former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, blamed the confrontations on goons allegedly linked to Speaker Moses Wetangula for the attack.
“It is sad that a leader in the National Assembly would do such a thing, sending goons to destroy an MP’s home simply because of differing political ideologies,” Natembeya said.
DAP-K urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the National Police Service (NPS) to investigate the incident and ensure security for all aspirants ahead of the by-elections scheduled for November 27.
