Kabianga School is a national boys’ boarding secondary school located in Belgut Constituency, Kericho County.
The institution was founded in 1925, becoming one of the early cradles of education in Kenya, following in the footsteps of Waa in Kwale and Kabaa in Ukambani, which had been founded three years earlier. Mangu, Allianc,e and Maseno government schools followed in 1926.
The Teachers’ College at Kabianga was established in 1943 and remained there until 1963, when the Duke Primary School premises became vacant following the departure of the white settlers. The college was then relocated to this new site, becoming Kericho Teachers’ Training College (TTC).
Kabianga School history
In 1964, the secondary school, now Kabianga Boys High School, took over the entire original space. As part of this educational complex, the Farmers Training Center was established in 1959 on the lower part of the Kabianga School Farm. In recent years, the complex has continued to grow, culminating in the establishment of the University of Kabianga.
Since its establishment, Kabianga school has undergone a significant transformation and now serves over 3,000 students, supported by a dedicated teaching staff of more than 32 educators.
The learning institution was elevated to national school status in recognition of its continued academic and infrastructural growth.
Each year, the school admits over 450 students based on academic merit and school preference, in accordance with Kenya’s national education placement policy. Previously, admissions were based on the results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination.
However, from 2023 onwards, selection has transitioned to the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.

KCSE performance
The learning institution achieved a commendable performance in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, with a mean score of 9.647, translating to a mean grade of B+.
In addition, Kabianga School’s class of 2024 achieved a 96.38% university transition rate, with 585 out of 609 students qualifying for university admission. Thirty-seven students scored a straight grade A, 118 attained an A-, 141 scored a B+, and 134 obtained a B. One hundred four candidates, on the other hand, earned a B-, while 51 achieved a C+. The school also recorded 19 C grades and 3 C- grades.
School fees
According to the Ministry of Education’s 2020 guidelines, national schools in Kenya were grouped into four clusters to standardize annual school fees across the country.
Kabianga School falls under Cluster Two (II), which caps the official annual fee at approximately Ksh75,798 per student. However, the total amount payable may vary slightly depending on the school. This is due to additional charges that may be included for items such as school uniforms, motivation programs, and co-curricular activities, which are determined at the institutional level.
