Kenya Met Lists Nairobi Among Areas to Continue Receiving Rain

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a seven-day weather forecast for the period starting January 28 to February 3, 2025. The outlook by Kenya Met came in the wake of rains in various parts of the country. 

On Sunday January 26, 2025, Nairobi and its environs witnessed heavy rainfall, rendering some roads within the city impassable. 

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected to continue over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the South-eastern lowlands during the first half of the forecast period.

However, most parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya are likely to be generally sunny and dry.

Kenya Met 7-Day Weather Forecast

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley   covers areas including Nairobi County, Central Kenya counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi.

Residents in these regions will experience minimum temperatures of up to 05°C and a maximum of 30°C.

According to the forecast, Morning rains are expected over few places in these regions. Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places during the first half of the forecast period.

At the same time, Kenya Met predicted that the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to receive rainfall in over a few places within this seven day period.

This region covers the counties of Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties.

Kenya Met indicated that morning rains are expected in a few places within these regions. Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are also likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places.

Areas within in the southeastern lowlands, which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta and Tana River Counties are also set to experience rainfall.

According to Kenya Met, Morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period within these regions.

Weather Forecast in the Coast Region

Elsewhere in The Coast region which includes areas within Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County, Sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, morning and afternoon showers may occur over a few areas in the South Coast during the first half of the forecast period.

High daytime temperatures of about 35°C, on the other hand are expected, in the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale as well as parts of Tana River County bordering the coast.

In the northwestern Kenya region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, sunny intervals are expected during the day, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

However, morning rains, as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms, may occur in a few places during the first half of the forecast period.

The weatherman, at the same time, said that North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties will experience sunny intervals are during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
