Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that Kenyans should brace for a week of contrasting weather patterns, with heavy rains, chilly nights, searing heat and strong winds expected across the country.
According to the Kenya Met, rainfall will persist in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and much of the Rift Valley, covering counties such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Nandi, Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, and Narok.
In the Central Highlands, including Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Embu, and Meru, residents should prepare for intermittent cloudiness, with occasional afternoon showers expected. Nairobi will also experience similar conditions.
The South-Eastern Lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, are likely to experience partly cloudy skies with sunny intervals during the day.
At the Coast, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, morning and evening showers may occur, although sunny conditions will dominate daytime hours.
Temperatures Below 10°C and Winds Exceeding 25 knots
The North-Eastern region, spanning Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, will remain hot with daytime highs above 30°C. North-Western Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu, will also experience similar scorching conditions.

Residents in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and around Mt. Kilimanjaro have been warned of chilly nights, with temperatures expected to dip below 10°C.
Nyahururu and surrounding towns are forecast to be among the coldest spots.
The weatherman further cautioned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots (about 46 km/h) along the Coast, in parts of the South-Eastern Lowlands, and across North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya.

On Friday, 29 August, the Kenya Meteorological Department announced that rainfall was expected to continue in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, as well as in the North and Central Rift Valley.

Comparing the 18th to 24th August 2025 and the 25th to 31st August 2025 periods, it is noted that there was a decrease in rainfall amounts over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Northwest and Coast strip, and an increase over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
“The highest seven-day rainfall total (48.5mm) was recorded in the Eldoret Meteorological Station in Uasin Gishu County.”
The rainfall station at Kaibos Mixed Secondary School in West Pokot County recorded the highest amount of rainfall within 24 hours, 30.5mm on August 27, 2025.
