Kenya Red Cross has a Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) institution that offers short courses.
The training institute began in 2010 to fortify pre-hospital and emergency health care.
It is registered under the Ministry of Education under the Vocational Education Training Authority.
Further, the institute offers training academic and professional short-term programs in the following areas: Paramedic & EMT programs – Academic, Occupational Health and Safety Courses, Short Medical Courses, Fire Safety, Professional Development courses, and paramedic and EMT programs.
Kenya Red Cross Courses
- Diploma in Paramedicine
The course entails a competency-based program that includes practical demonstrations, skills practice, and clinical and field internship experience.
Additionally, equipping learners with skills in pre-hospital emergency care.
Requirements
KCSE Grade C or equivalent, with a C in Biology, English/Kiswahili, Chemistry, and Physics/Maths.
Or a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from KRCTI or another recognized institution, with valid practice certification.
A Qualified Clinical healthcare worker holding a valid Certificate/Diploma/Degree in relevant health-related courses can apply.
The duration of this course is 24 months for full-time students and 30 months for part-time students, with January and September intakes.
Fees
The fee for the Diploma course is Ksh300,000 for the whole period.

Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
The program prepares students for pre-hospital care roles and positions them to function in healthcare facilities.
Requirements
A KCSE Grade D+, with a D+ in Biology and a C- in English/Kiswahili.
The duration period for this course for full-time students is 12 months and 18 months for Part-time students.
Intakes are in January, May, and September.

Fees
The course charges Ksh115,000 for the whole period.
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
The course targets health professionals, especially pre-hospital emergency trauma care providers.
Requirements
Only medical professionals are advised to apply.
In addition, it takes 3 days and charge a fee of 30,000.

Short Courses at KRCTI Open to All
- Basic First Aid
The basic first aid course is open to any individual who wishes to learn about first aid.
Additionally, the duration of the course takes one (1) day with a fee charge ranging from 5000 to 5500.
- Infant and Baby First Aid.
The course is taught to parents, nannies and any daycare/preschool teachers. It is useful for individuals handling children daily because child-related incidents are likely to occur in their presence.
The course takes one (1) day with a fee of Ksh2500.
3. Basic Fire Safety
Open to anyone interested in learning basic firefighting techniques to prevent small fires from turning into emergencies.
It takes one day of training with a fee of KSh3500.
