Iran has stated that its conflict with the United States can only be resolved if U.S. President Donald Trump meets Tehran’s three demands, including paying billions of dollars in reparations.
In a post on social media platform X, the Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian said the conflict could only end if Iran’s “legitimate rights” are acknowledged, compensation is paid for damages, and strong international guarantees are provided to prevent future attacks- demands that have revived comparisons to payments made during the Obama era.
“Talking to leaders of Russia and Pakistan, I reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace in the region. The only way to end this war–ignited by the Zionist regime and US–is recognising Iran’s legitimate rights, payment of reparations, and firm international guarantees against future aggression,” he wrote.

The comments from Masoud Pezeshkian come as tensions with the United States remain high and debate grows over whether Washington could face pressure to provide financial compensation similar to a settlement reached during the Obama era.
In January 2016, the Obama administration arranged a $1.7 billion settlement with Iran, which included a $400 million cash payment, to resolve a decades-old dispute over a failed arms deal from before the 1979 Iranian revolution.
While the Obama administration maintained the payment was not a “ransom” and was separate from the concurrent release of four American prisoners, they later admitted to using the cash as “leverage” to ensure the detainees’ release.

Trump on Iran War
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has said that the war with Iran may end “soon” because there is “practically nothing left” for the United States military to bomb, as Iran says it’s ready for “a long-term war of attrition that will destroy the entire American economy.”
Iran also warned that it would start targeting U.S.-linked banks across the Mideas
In an interview with Axios on Wednesday, the US president emphasised that he can make the decision to stop the fighting whenever he likes.
“Any time I want it to end, it will end,” Trump was quoted as saying.
Trump reiterated his view that the war is proceeding ahead of schedule.
“The war is going great. We are way ahead of the timetable. We have done more damage than we thought possible, even in the original six-week period,” Trump said.

His statement coincided with comments from Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, suggesting that the timeline for ending the war is open-ended.
“The operation will continue without any time limit, as long as required, until we accomplish all objectives and achieve victory in the campaign,” Katz said, according to The Times of Israel.
The US president has repeatedly said the war will end soon, but Washington has not provided a clear timeline for concluding the military offensive.
It is also unclear whether Tehran would abide by a ceasefire announced solely by the US.
