Former Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly criticized President Donald Trump over the war involving Iran, rising oil prices, and the administration’s decision to release emergency oil reserves.

In a statement posted online Wednesday evening, March 11, Greene argued that, despite campaign promises to avoid new wars, the United States was now becoming further entangled in foreign conflicts.

The former congresswoman also referenced reports of a deadly strike on a girls’ school in Iran, an incident currently under investigation by U.S. military officials.

“Under President Trump, U.S. Military servicemen and women are being killed and injured, reportedly at higher numbers than we are being told and innocent children were killed at a school in Iran by U.S. bombs,” she wrote.

Greene further criticized the administration’s decision to release oil from the emergency stockpile, arguing it reflected the economic strain of the conflict and rising gas prices.

Her remarks came after the administration confirmed that 172 million barrels would be released from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as part of a coordinated action by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Greene argued the decision reflected the economic strain caused by the conflict.

“The price of oil is skyrocketing, tankers are being bombed, and today the President released half of our Strategic Oil Reserves to try to stop gas prices from going out of control.”

Defense of Massie amid Trump attacks

At the same time, Greene defended Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie, who has been repeatedly criticized by President Trump ahead of the May 19 Republican primary.

“President Trump, who promised Americans “no more foreign wars, no more regime change” spent the day in Kentucky telling approximately 500 Fox News brainwashed boomers (most not even from the district) that Massie is bad because Massie didn’t vote for Trump’s COVID lockdowns and COVID bailouts and COVID vaccines in 2020 and because Massie (and me) voted to release the Epstein files which embarrassed a bunch of the President’s friends,” Greene added.

The president intensified his attacks on Massie during a rally on Wednesday in Hebron, Kentucky.

“We’ve got to get rid of this loser. This guy is bad,” Trump said during the event.

“He’s disloyal to the Republican Party. He’s disloyal to the people of Kentucky, and most importantly, he is disloyal to the United States of America,” the president added.

The remarks came as Trump campaigns against Massie in support of his preferred candidate in the race, Ed Gallrein.

Long-running dispute inside the Republican Party

The conflict between Trump and Massie has been building for months.

Massie opposed several policies backed by Trump, including the president’s legislative agenda known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

He also co-sponsored the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which required the U.S. Department of Justice to release documents related to the investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“By the time Trump’s presidency and wars are over, we will be nearing $60 trillion dollars in debt and the only man in Washington that will have voted NO to all the insanity will be Thomas Massie,” Greene added.

Trump had initially opposed the release of Epstein records but later signed the legislation after it passed both chambers of the United States Congress.

In a post earlier this year, Trump called Massie “the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman we have had in many years.”

Response

Massie responded to Trump’s criticism in a post on X.

“I predict ‘President’ DJT will begrudgingly sign my beautiful Epstein Files Transparency Act,” Massie wrote.

He added that the law would lead to prominent figures connected to the case facing legal consequences or public pressure to resign.

The congressman also included a link asking supporters to donate to his campaign.

Massie has said Trump and his allies are spending millions of dollars to try to defeat him in the Republican primary.

Trump’s rally in Hebron brought together several Republican officials and political figures from across Kentucky.

Among attendees were Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman, Auditor Allison Ball, Secretary of State Michael Adams, and Treasurer Mark Metcalf.

Several Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate were also present, including Andy Barr, Daniel Cameron, and Nate Morris.

Trump also invited media personality Jake Paul and political activist Nicholas Sandmann to speak at the event.
