Kenya’s Under-20 wonderkid Aldrine Kibet, has signed with the Spanish football club Celta Vigo in La Liga.
According to media reports, the young player has completed a €6 million (Ksh 864 million) transfer to the Spanish La Liga side.
Following the reports, a section of Kenyans have sent messages of congratulations on the move. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris said the move by the 18-year-old marks a major milestone in his football journey.
“Kenyan wonderkid Aldrine Kibet has completed a €6 million transfer to Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo. The 18-year-old U20 star’s move marks a major milestone in his football journey, elevating him from local hero to a rising force on the global stage,” read part of her statement.
Aldrine Kibet Joins Celta Vigo
Sports journalist Ole Teya said, “Celta Vigo are on the verge of winning hearts in Baringo and Kitale with Aldrine Kibet’s expected signing. Kibet may have arrived in Kitale as just a student, but he’s now a local icon, his presence alone is enough to bring business to a standstill.”
Another social media user, Levy Masika, said, “Congratulations, our star. Keep pushing.”
Aldrine Kibet rose to prominence playing as an attacking midfielder for St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where he captained the team to a national championship title at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament in August 2023.

He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and top scorer, with 25 goals and 27 assists during the tournament. Before transferring to Celta Vigo, Aldrine Kibet was playing in Spain’s Nàstic Sports Academy, the youth development arm linked to Gimnàstic de Tarragona, which competes in the Spanish third tier.
He moved there in September 2023, directly from St. Anthony’s Boys’ High School in Kitale, after shining in the 2023 KSSSA school games.
