Russia has intensified its attack on Ukraine, with an overnight drone attack killing Ukrainian civilians, including minors.
According to the military reports, Russian drones hit residential areas across Ukraine, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.
The latest strikes come amid persistent air assaults by Moscow’s forces, which have targeted both civilian and infrastructure sites across Ukraine.

The attack also damaged a private home in the Kharkiv region, killing a woman and a 10-year-old boy.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 9 people were injured, including a 13-year-old girl, injuring a 57-year-old woman who is in a “serious” condition, with the remaining casualties in moderate condition, officials said.
Russia’s Intensified Attack Using Drones
These latest strikes occur as part of a broader pattern of Russian drone and missile attacks that have increased over the past months. Russia has been using suicide drones in attacking Ukraine, mainly targeting key energy facilities in the region, amid the winter season.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that more than 400 suicide drones and roughly 40 cruise missiles targeted critical energy facilities, including power generation, grids, and substations.
On 7th January 2025, Russia also launched an attack involving more than 400 drones and around 40 missiles of various types.
Ukraine reported that Russian forces launched a large-scale air assault on Ukraine’s infrastructure, firing dozens of missiles and unleashing hundreds of attack drones in a coordinated attack.
The attacks have caused disruption, leaving regions without power and heating, leaving thousands without heat amid freezing winter conditions.
Human rights advocates and Ukrainian officials have condemned the attacks, stating they violate international law by targeting civilians’ homes, killing them, including minors.
Kyiv says the assaults amount to war crimes and calls for stronger sanctions and international pressure on Moscow.
“The Russian Federation continues its terror. Every attack is a war crime,” stated Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
Putin Faces Pressure Following Sanctions on Russia’s Weapons
Russia’s President Putin is facing mounting pressure following sanctions on Russia’s weapons and crypto support firms after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced new measures targeting companies linked to missile and drone production.
The sanctions were unveiled after Russia carried out a massive overnight attack on Ukraine, deploying over 400 drones and nearly 40 missiles of various types.

Zelenskyy stated that producing such weaponry would be impossible without critical foreign components, which Russia continues to obtain by circumventing sanctions.
“We are introducing new sanctions precisely against such companies – component suppliers, as well as missile and drone manufacturers. I have signed the relevant decisions,” Zelenskyy said.
From his statement, the measures focus on companies supplying components used in Russian missiles and drones, as well as manufacturers involved in their production.
A second decree applies sanctions against Russia’s financial sector. The list includes companies through which payments are made for the supply of components used in the production of Russian missiles and drones.
Trilateral Talks Conclude Without Major Breakthrough
Trilateral peace negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States concluded in the United Arab Emirates after two days of discussions but failed to achieve a ceasefire.
Delegates held what they described as “constructive” talks focused on mechanisms to monitor a halt in hostilities and potential frameworks for future negotiations.
A mutual prisoner exchange took place, with 157 Ukrainian and 157 Russian prisoners released as a tangible outcome, but the larger goal of securing a comprehensive ceasefire proved elusive.
Moscow continued to reject Ukraine’s demand for an unconditional end to fighting and maintained positions on territorial issues, leaving peace efforts stalled.
