United States (US) Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, told Fox News that President Donald Trump might halt efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
In a post shared by Sprinter Press on December 9, Whitaker stated that Trump could happen if Trump concludes that reaching a peace agreement is impossible.
“If the President decides that an agreement is impossible, he will walk away, which, as you know, is in his nature,” Whitaker said.
According to Whitaker, peace in Ukraine is nearer than ever before. He stressed that although both sides can face pressure, a successful resolution will require the engagement of both Moscow and Kyiv.
Ukraine to Present Revised Peace Plan to US
Ukraine is set to present a revised peace plan to the Trump administration on December 9, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pushes back against United States demands to give up territory to Russia.
Zelenskyy noted that he has “no right” to surrender Ukrainian land under either domestic or international law.
His allies insist that Ukraine cannot give up land, warning that doing so would reward Russian aggression.
However, the Trump administration has indicated that Ukraine may need to cede territory to secure a peace deal, a move Zelensky has consistently ruled out.
“Russia is insisting that we give up territories, but we don’t want to cede anything. We have no legal right to do so under Ukrainian law, our constitution, and international law. And we don’t have any moral right either,” he said.

Russia’s chief of general staff, Valery Gerasimov, claimed Russian forces are advancing along Ukraine’s front line, targeting Myrnohrad, near the strategic city of Pokrovsk.
Russia has stated that it has captured Pokrovsk, which would bring it closer to controlling the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, comprising Donetsk and Luhansk.
Ukraine, however, denies these claims, with reports showing Ukrainian soldiers still defending the city.

President Zelenskyy Calls for Accountability
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for accountability from Russia.
In a statement on December 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine deserves a dignified peace, adding that achieving it depends entirely on Russia and on the collective pressure applied by the United States, Europe, and other international partners.
He stressed that Russia must be held accountable for its actions, including daily strikes, constant terror against civilians, and the ongoing war.
“Ukraine deserves a dignified peace, and whether there will be peace depends entirely on Russia – on our collective pressure on Russia and on the sound negotiating positions of the United States, Europe, and all our other partners,” read part of the statement.
