Precious Blood Riruta is a top extra-county girls’ secondary school located in Nairobi County.
Founded in 1964 by the Catholic nuns of the Precious Blood Sisters, the school was originally set up to educate children from indigenous communities in Kawangware, Riruta, and Uthiru who had been adversely affected by the Mau-Mau struggle.
The school began as a two-streamed institution with 360 students drawn from Nairobi Province.
However, due to popular demand, a third stream was added in 2008. The school sits on a ten-acre piece of land that houses hostels, classrooms, science laboratories, staff residences (seven houses), a kitchen, a school hall, a computer lab, and sports fields.
From its founding until 2001, the school was managed by the Precious Blood Sisters. A significant shift occurred in 2001 when Mrs. Gladwell Mungai, a lay principal, took over. She served until her retirement in 2005, when Mrs. Jacinta Akatsa assumed leadership.
Over the years, the school has consistently demonstrated improvement in both academic and co-curricular performance.
In the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, Precious Blood Riruta posted an impressive mean score of 7.9598.
