A woman has come forward with claims of torture, sexual assault, and wrongful detention at a Women’s Prison, where she says she was held for more than two months following a dispute with her former partner, a Kenyan Governor.
In a story shared on social media on October 1 by Caroline Gikunda on behalf of the woman, it was alleged that after her relationship with the official ended, he denied paternity of their child and demanded the return of property and money he had previously given her, including a parcel of land and Ksh15 million.
“Speak for me as I seek medical attention. I have hallucinations, can’t sleep, and just came from remand prison. He is demanding I pay him 15million, check what’s up,” the lady begged Caroline.
She claims that although a warrant of arrest had been issued at a Nairobi police station, she was instead remanded in prison, where she endured severe abuse.

According to Gikunda, the woman was beaten while covered in blankets, sexually assaulted, and forced to take medication without knowing what it was for.
The woman further alleged that wardens acted under instructions to mistreat her, and that drugs were sent under her name in an effort to implicate her.
She claims that the experience has left her traumatized, struggling with hallucinations, insomnia, and suicidal thoughts.
She now says she is willing to repay the Ksh15 million if given time, in order to secure her freedom and safety.
According to the post, the woman has also indicated readiness to speak publicly about her ordeal, even as she continues to seek medical attention.
Supporters close to her are appealing for help, saying she urgently needs medical, legal, and emotional support to recover from what she describes as “hell and back” while in custody.
They will not tell you the truth, but I am reaching out to one person. Who can tell the world the truth? I was in a women’s prison for 3 months. I went through hell and back

Reactions From Kenyans
The post has drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many taking to social media to share their views.
Amid the wave of reactions, some Kenyans expressed skepticism over the woman’s claims.
Christine Nduku remarked, “I’m a girls’ girl, but on this one I won’t move with sympathy. For those who have been to Lang’ata women’s prison, whether remand or main prison, can detect the lies in that story.”

Others, however, came to the woman’s defense, insisting that her claims were genuine.
Moses Wambui wrote, “I can attest the same. She called me this morning, and we spoke for almost an hour, and every word here is the same. She is undergoing hell, and it is very unfair.”
Some urged caution, noting that both sides of the story needed to be heard.
Ja’home Oti commented, “Kindly let her tell you why she was taken to prison so that we can have a balanced debate.”
Others suggested the matter could be politically motivated, especially with elections approaching.
Francis Mawioo John wrote, ‘Not my Gavana. But I’ll want to hear from both sides. A 2027 opponent of the good Gavana is overworking.’”
