Mariam Sheikh Omar is a nominated Senator representing Mandera County in the Kenyan Senate, serving her first term since August 16, 2022.

Mariam Sheikh Omar is a native of Mandera County, Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Kampala University (2010–2011).
Later, she obtained a Master of Business Administration (Accounting) from Mount Kenya University in 2014.
She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
Additionally, Omar has a diploma in Personnel Management from the Frontier Institute of Professional and Management Studies.

Mariam Sheikh Omar has more than fifteen years of professional experience in accounting and management.
She began her career working as a finance officer with the Aga Khan Foundation (EMACK) from about 2007 until 2012.
Following that, from 2012 to 2017, she served as a management accountant at the Northern Water Service Board.
In 2017, she became the CEO of the Frontier Institute of Professional and Management Studies, a role she held until her nomination to the Senate in 2022.
She was nominated as a Senator to represent women’s affairs from Mandera County in August 2022 under the United Democratic Movement (UDM), which is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

In the Senate, she serves as Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Health and is also a member of the Standing Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources, and the County Public Accounts Committee.
