The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has revealed the reason why detectives raided Kitale home of Trans Nzoia Governor George Ntembeya on the morning of Monday May 19, 2025.
In a statement, the Authority stated that the search operation is part of a wider investigation into allegations of procurement irregularities, abuse of office, bribery, and fraudulent acquisition of public funds by the Trans Nzoia County Government.
“Today, Monday, 19th May 2025, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), upon obtaining search warrants, conducted searches at the residences and offices of Governor George Natembeya and four others in relation to alleged irregular procurement and fictitious payments of Kes 1.4 billion by the County Government of Trans-Nzoia during the Financial Years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025,” read part of the statement.
EACC Explains Why They Raided the Home of Natembeya
According to the EACC, the investigations are focused on three major projects awarded by the County Government:
- Rehabilitation and Modernisation of Kenyatta Stadium (Phase 1A) — awarded to Parbat Siyan Construction Limited
- Construction of the Trans Nzoia County Headquarters Offices — awarded to C.M. Construction Company Limited
- Construction of Tom Mboya Hospital — awarded to Session Blue Contractors Limited
Additionally, the Commission stated that Natembeya is alleged to have influenced award of tenders and received kickbacks from contractors through proxies.
The persons of interest according to the Commission include George Natembeya Emanuel Masungo, Chief Officer, Finance, Dorothy Nyukuri , Chief Officer, Water, Eliyah Liambula – Director, Procurement, Desmond Shivachi and Contractor/Proxy to the Governor.
Further, the Authority stated that it is probing allegations of money laundering and accumulation of unexplained wealth by senior county officials, suspected to be part of a broader scheme to conceal the proceeds of crime.

At the same time, the Commission condemned the incident where some of their officers were attacked by a group of youth were outside Natembeya’s gate.
“Unfortunately, during today’s operation at Governor Natembeya’s residence in Kitale, Commission vehicles were vandalized by a group of rowdy youths. The Commission strongly condemns the violence directed at its officers while lawfully executing their mandate.
It is an offence punishable by law for any person to obstruct a Commission Officer while undertaking investigations,” said EACC.
Leaders Condemn Raid at Governor’s Home
Currently the Governor is being grilled at the EACC office in the Integrity Centre in Nairobi for processing.
Earlier, the EACC conducted a raid at the Trans Nzoia Governor’s home where several of its officers camped at his house.

Protests erupted outside the governor’s home with residents vowing not to allow the Governor to be arrested.
Several leaders also camped outside Natembeya’s home, including DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, who urged the state to stop harassing leaders with dissenting views on government policies.
