Former Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba has shared his key accomplishments after being dismissed from his role, along with all other Cabinet Secretaries by President William Ruto on July 11.
In a media address on Sunday July 14, Namwamba expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for giving him the chance to serve in the sports docket.
“I thank the president for the time he has allowed me to serve in this docket of Youth Affairs Creative Economy and Sports,” said Namwamba.
He emphasized that the occupation of public office was a privilege, not an entitlement, and that there were many other Kenyans capable of excelling in such positions when given the chance.
“Appointment to serve in public office is a privilege, is an honor it’s not an entitlement it’s not a right there are over 50 million Kenyans who deserve to occupy any public office and given a chance they would certainly offer their very best.”

“I feel quite privileged I feel quite honored I feel quite humbled that three times in my life three different presidents have given me an opportunity to serve this country,” he added.
Ababu Namwamba Lists His Accomplishments
Speaking about his accomplishments, the former CS believes he delivered impressive results during his tenure, stating that under his guidance the Ministry had revived Kenya’s sports.
He explained that he had ensured the lifting of the suspension imposed on Kenya’s National football team by FIFA.
Additionally, he revealed that Kenya had made history by having a team, the harambee Junior Starlets, qualify for the World Cup.

“We have revived sports, got FIFA to lift the suspension on Kenyan football, won the Africa Cup of Nations, and will host the competition for the first time.”
“Motorsports have made a comeback, and we sent a team to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in Kenyan history,” added Namwamba.
Despite these successes, Namwamba acknowledged that the decision on the country’s way forward rests with President Ruto.
“There are success stories all over the place but at the end of the day it’s up to the president to decide how he wishes to move forward from this point.”
Namwamba Responds After Uproar Over Paris Delegation
Also, during his tenure Ababu Namwamba has been embroiled in controversy with the latest being the public uproar over the disclosure of the list of all the non-athletes traveling to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Kenyans were demanding for the former CS to disclose the expected total cost of the Kenyan delegation’s travel to the multinational sporting event.

In a statement on July 11, Namwamba responded to the uproar saying the full list would be made public by the National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) who were the responsible body for the games.
“NOCK should expedite finalization of the Team Kenya delegation to the Paris 2024 Olympics comprised of athletes, officials and medics, detailing the specific role of each member of the delegation,” reads the statement in part.
“The delegation to be kept at the barest minimum as directed by myself and affirmed by the PMC. The priority is athletes, their coaches and medics.”
