Rozaah Buyu Akinyi is a Kenyan politician elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. She represents the Kisumu West Constituency in the National Assembly.
She has the distinction of being the second woman elected as an MP in Kisumu County since Kenya’s independence.
Educational background of Rozaah Buyu
Rozaah Buyu began her education at the Aga Khan Primary School in Kisumu. She would then join Loreto High School, Limuru, where she completed her Ordinary Level (O-Level) studies between 1976 and 1979, earning Division One.
She continued at the same institution for her Advanced Level (A-Level), attending from 1980 to 1981, and achieved excellent results, earning three A-Levels and one C.
She then joined Kenyatta University College, where she pursued and completed a Bachelor of Education degree between 1983 and 1986.
Career information
Professionally, Rozaah Buyu started her career as a high school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission from 1986 to 1992.
She then worked as a Brand Manager at Johnson & Johnson (Kenya) from 1992 to 1999.
She also served as a Commissioner with the Interim Independent Boundaries Review Commission between 2008 and 2010.
Rozaah Buyu entered elective politics and was first elected as a Women Representative for Kisumu County in 2017.
In 2022 general election, Buyu was elected as the MP for Kisumu West Constituency starting in August 2022.
She is affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In Parliament, she has been a member of important committees including the Regional Integration Committee and the Departmental Committee on Natural Resources.
She has been recognized for her communication skills and has received awards such as the Gala Award for Best Woman Representative nationally and in the Nyanza region in 2020.
