Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has made a passionate plea to Opposition leader Raila Odinga, urging him to lead anti-government protests in the country before pursuing the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Speaking in Migori County during the Installation Ceremony of Seme Council of Elders leaders, Owino decried the suffering of Kenyans under President Ruto’s administration, citing the introduction of various taxes, including a controversial bread tax.
“Baba Raila Amollo Odinga, Kenyans have problems, Kenyans are suffering, Ruto is burdening citizens.”
“Everything is being taxed, now they have brought a tax on bread, Baba before you head to the AU, please call us for one maandamano so that we finish with this man,” said Babu.
He appealed to Raila to come to the aid of Kenyans, suggesting that the opposition leader has sufficient connections in Africa to secure the AUC position without relying on President Ruto’s support.
Babu Owino’s Message to Ruto
Furthermore, he asked President William Ruto to give Raila Odinga his vote for the AUC position without any conditions, as Odinga is a fellow Kenyan.

“Let president Ruto give Raila his one vote, with no strings attached as a fellow Kenyan and if he does not want, we will not beg him… Raila has enough connections in Africa and when we beg each other all the time that’s when a lot of nonsense occurs.”
Babu criticizes Kimani Ichung’wa
He also criticized members of Kenya Kwanza, particularly National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, who had earlier warned that the government might withdraw support for Raila if he continues criticizing the government.
“There are certain people, who are saying that they are the ones who will give you the AU Chair seat,” he stated.
“Let me ask all of you Kenyans, is Kimani Ichung’wah going to cast a vote in AUC?”
Raila Criticizes the Government
On Friday, May 3, Raila had accused Ruto’s administration of incompetence, particularly in its response to the devastating flood disaster that claimed over 200 lives.
During a visit to flood victims at Kwa Reuben Secondary School in Embakasi East constituency, Raila criticized members of Ruto’s cabinet, labeling them as ”clueless”.
“The people calling themselves CSs of Health, Education and Public Service are all useless. We have a problem because the driver does not know where the steering wheel is located,” he stated.
Ruto’s Allies Go After Raila
In a stern response, President Ruto’s allies, led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, cautioned Raila Odinga about the potential consequences of his persistent anti-government remarks.
They both told off Raila, warning him that his incessant attacks on the government would not go without consequences.

Ichung’wa emphasized the need for Raila to be humble and respect President Ruto, who is actively campaigning on his behalf.
