Former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim says he survived an attempted attack on his life on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
In a statement, Maalim says his convoy evaded an attack while on a campaign trail in Garrisa.
Maalim claims the attack was staged by unknown assailants.
He says that the attackers had planted improvised explosive devices(IEDs) along the Liboi route targeting his convoy.
Police officers on patrol got intelligence of the plan and thwarted it.
“They halted my convoy, rerouted us to a safe detour and engaged services of bomb disposal experts. They then detonated the IED’s with ease. My profound gratitude to our officers,” Maalim said.
He added: “The exploded IEDs left a crater in the road. Congratulations to our gallant security officers for saving lives during this critical electioneering period.”
Police halted Maalim’s convoy and rerouted to a safe detour.
Bomb disposal experts successfully detonated the IED’s with ease.
Maalim is eyeing the Dadaab Constituency seat in the August 9 polls.
He thanked the police officers who he said responded swiftly to the intelligence reports they received.
