The Ministry of Sports has moved to save Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards after committing mistakes that attracted severe punishment from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.
Gor received Ksh.5 million for winning the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League.
Additionally, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba announced another Ksh.5 million to cover the salaries of former players and coaches who reported the club to FIFA.
Namwamba also awarded Ingwe Ksh. 5 million to settle the penalties which FIFA imposed on them.
“We will not give these Clubs the money, instead we will send it directly to FIFA and CAF,” said Namwamba.
Namwamba pledged not to allow club officials to mess up with the country’s football and players.
The CS also faulted Gor Chairman Ambrose Rachier should have informed him about the club’s challenges with CAF for prompt intervention to save the situation.
The CS was speaking at the Champions Reception held at Safari Park on Friday July 28.

Other Clubs
Kakamega Homeboyz , Vihiga Queens and Ulinzi Starlets all received Ksh.5 million.
Shabana FC who got promotion to the league received Ksh.3 million while Murang’a Seals got Ksh.2 million.
All FKF Division One winners and Division Two winners received Ksh.300,000 each.
On the other hand, all FKF Premier League teams and National Super League teams received Ksh.500,000 each.

Gor Mahia Banned from CAF Champions League
In an announcement on Thursday, July 20, CAF disqualified Gor Mahia for failing to meet the CAF Club Licensing Rule.
Further, CAF directed FKF President Nick Mwendwa to revoke Gor Mahia’s license.
CAF revealed that Gor owes three of its former players Jules Ulimwengu, Yangayay Sando Sando and Adama Keita who reported the club to FIFA for failing to pay their salaries.
The Club qualified for the CAF Champions League after winning the 2022/2023 FKF premier by one point against rivals Tusker.
This disqualification meant that no Kenyan club would participate in the competition.
