The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted seven candidates for the position of Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
In a notice on Friday, February 16, 2024, JSC said it settled on the seven potential candidates after receiving applications from forty-three individuals.
“Following the advertisement of the position of chief executive registrar of the judiciary, the commissioner received a total of forty-three applications,” the notice read in part.
According to the Commission, interviews are scheduled to take place on March 18th, 2024, at the Judicial Service Commission Boardroom located at CBK Pension Towers in Nairobi.
Further, the Commission shared a list of candidates that had been nominated for the position.
“Having reviewed the applications for completeness and conformity with the constitutional and statutory requirements, set out in the advertisements Ref.V/No.30/2023 OF 23a October 2023, the Commission shortlisted a total of seven candidates,” continued the Judiciary statement.
JSC Narrows down to seven
Among the short-listed candidates are, Macharia Rose Wachuka and Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali.
Rose has been an advocate at the High court of Kenya since 2011.
She holds a Master of public policy from the university of oxford and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Moi University.
Wachuka was also appointed chief of staff to chief Justice Martha K. Koome.
Ouma Jack Busalile Mwimali is the dean of school of law at the Jomo Kenyatta Institute of Science and Technology (JKUAT).
He is a human right practitioner and also an advocate at the Goretti Munialo Mwimali & Co. advocates.
Other Selected Candidates
Ndemo Paul Maina was also among the Commision’s short listed candidates.
He is currently serving as the deputy chief registrar of the judiciary.
Maina works as the principal assistant to the chief Registrar of the commission.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of International Studies degree from the university of Nairobi.
Other selected candidates are, Mokaya Frida Boyani, Wambeti Anne Ireri, Kendagor Caroline Jepyegen, and Kandet Kennedy Lenkamai.
Each candidate has a specific time slot for their interview, ranging from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Functions of Registrar
The functions of the chief register include preparing estimates of expenditure.

Also, the chief registrar is responsible for supporting services in the judiciary and in particular, planning, development and organization of staff and also monitor and enhance administration and office procedures to maximize on efficiency and quality of service.
The public notice also invited members of the public to provide any relevant information or feedback regarding the shortlisted candidates.
This information can be submitted in writing to the Judicial Service Commission, and confidentiality will be maintained.
“Please note that the commission may interview any member of the public who had submitted information on any of the shortlisted candidates and such information shall be kept confidential, ” the notice read in part.

After working for over 10 years, former chief registrar of the Kenya Judiciary, Ann Amadi retired in January 2024.
She worked as chief registrar of the Judiciary since 2014.
