Eight people have been confirmed dead in a grisly road accident along the Ngata-Salgaa road in Nakuru county.
The accident that occurred early Monday, November 6, morning at 4:00 am, involved an 11-seater matatu and a lorry plying the Nakuru- Eldoret Highway.
Further, Nakuru County Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident noting that several others who were severely injured were rushed to the nearest hospital.
He added that many of the casualties were rushed to Nakuru Level 5 hospital and were receiving treatment.
Images seen of the scene by The Kenya Times, showed the matatu completely damaged with passenger’s luggage scattered on the road along with shattered glasses everywhere.
Notably, first responders were already at the scene.

Salgaa Matatu Lorry Accidents
Earlier in June 2023, another accident occurred along the Nakuru- Eldoret Highway killing three including two students and a driver.
Furthermore, the accident involved a matatu that was heading to Eldoret from Nakuru when it collided with a lorry head on.
In addition, the matatu was reported to have been ferrying 15 passengers, including several students who were heading home after their school closed for half-term break.

Latest NTSA Statistics
According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) at least 21,760 people were involved in road accidents in 2022.
The report shows a 1,135 increase from 2021, when 20,625 individuals were killed in traffic accidents.
According to the most recent NTSA data, 2,124 persons died in traffic accidents in 2023 between January and June of this year.
Furthermore, the authority blames unskilled and unfit drivers for the rise in fatalities, noting that many of them were pedestrians (571), followed by motorbike operators (449).
