A police officer was on Friday night burnt to death following an accident at Fuludhi Bridge along the Siaya-Rang’ala road.
Two other officers sustained sustained serious injuries in the accident
According to Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Benedict Mwangangi, the three officers were heading home from a drinking spree in Ugunja town.
The driver of the vehicle they were traveling in lost control before the car rolled after hitting a bridge rail guard .
Mwangangi said the accident occurred at around 1:40am on Saturday.
“The three were traveling in a car from Ugunja when bright headlamps of an oncoming lorry blinded them,” he said.
“Their car then hit the guard rail, and rolled off before it caught fire and one officer was burnt to death.”
Two officers with broken legs, however managed to crawl out of the wreckage to safety but unfortunately the remaining officer was stuck in the vehicle.
According to Mwangangi, the vehicle burst into flames before the officer could be rescued.
The body of the deceased officer has since been moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary while the survivors are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
