Several students from St. Thomas Aquinas Igumori School were injured on Wednesday after a school bus they were traveling in overturned along the Kiritiri–Kiambere road in Mbeere South.
According to reports, the bus lost control on a slippery section of the road under construction.
The students were heading to Ngenge Secondary School to participate in a music festival competition when the accident occurred.
The bus is said to have skidded off the road before overturning, causing panic among students and nearby residents, who quickly rushed to assist in the rescue efforts.

According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred on a section of the road undergoing construction works. Witnesses alleged that the surface had become slippery after a contractor working in the area spilled water on it, making it difficult for vehicles to maintain traction.

The bus reportedly lost control while navigating the affected stretch, skidded off the road, and overturned.
Emergency responders and members of the public quickly mobilized to rescue the students trapped in and around the overturned bus. The injured were evacuated and rushed to Kiritiri Health Center for urgent medical attention.
Following the incident, authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. Key focus areas include the condition of the road at the time, the impact of ongoing construction works, and whether appropriate safety measures and signage were in place to warn motorists.
