Authorities face pressure from a family demanding action after a man, aged 25, was reportedly pushed from a Super Metro bus on the Kitengela–Namanga Highway on Tuesday night, February.
The victim, Joseph Mureithi, was reportedly thrown out of the vehicle at around 11 pm near Shalom Hospital.
Witnesses allege that moments after he was ejected, the same bus ran over him and sped off, leaving him fatally injured by the roadside.
Joseph Mureithi Thrown Out of Super Metro Bus
According to the reports, Mureithi, a petrol attendant in Athi River, had just finished work and boarded the bus heading to Nairobi from Kitengela.
Passengers claimed the vehicle was overcrowded and that the crew appeared chaotic and confrontational before the incident occurred less than a kilometre from the stage.
His life was cut short in an instant, with witnesses alleging that the same bus ran over him before speeding off into the night.
“He boarded the bus, and it moved off. When we reached the lower part, chaos broke out, and the young man was pushed from the bus and fell to the ground. At first, I thought he had just fallen lightly, but when we got there, his head was split open,” reported one of the witnesses.
Patrick Muthomi, a family member of the deceased, condemned the bus crew’s actions, saying the incident could have been avoided and expressing anger over the loss of their relative.
“Instead of throwing someone out, it would have been better to tell him this money won’t work, wait outside for the next bus. Our young man has now left us like that, and he had just finished work and boarded the matatu to get to Mlolongo. They just pushed him out, ran over him, and fled. They don’t want to take responsibility,” he stated.
