Two police officers and a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) official have been reported missing after a boat capsized in Lake Victoria around midnight on Thursday.
Sergeant Anderson Wendot, Police Constable Onesmus Githinji and KRA staff member Joseph Jillo who was captaining the boat were in a team of other officers when the incident occurred.
According to police reports, the three were part of a team of eight officers drawn from the National Police Service, Marine Police, Administration Police (AP) and KRA who were conducting a joint operation around the lake.

The accident occurred about 200 metres from Mugabo Beach at around 0020 hours.
“The following were rescued; Sergeant Athman Mohammed, Corporal Erick Ogutu, AP Constable David Omollo, Clifford Owino (KRA) and Omar Omar (KRA),” reads the police report in part.
Three AK47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, which were in the possession of Mohammed, Wendot and Omollo are yet to be recovered.
Efforts to locate the missing officers are ongoing.
