Days after South Africans went to polls on May 29, Kenyans on X revisited Economic Freedom Fighters party (EFF) leader Julius Malema ’s attack on Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
According to the results by South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Malema’s EFF was staring at a heavy defeat.
Malema had in 2022 asked Raila to accept defeat and not go to appeal the outcome of the polls.
“I would like to congratulate the President elect of the republic of Kenya and call upon Raila Odinga to accept the elections out come and not to form part of the tradition of causing instability and uncertainty on African Government.
Mr. Odinga must humble Himself and form part of government and not to allow history to remember him as a leader desperate for power at the expense of development,” Malema said then.

Kenyans to Malema

“Julius Malema can now feel how it is to become Baba. He used to throw his mouth all the way From South Africa telling Baba to accept election results,” read the tweet.
Another User by the name Lupellah Johnson stated that finally Karma was catching up with Malema after trashing Raila and went further to compare Him to George Wajackoyah.
“Karma is real at least Raila finished number 2 Julius Malema is the Wajackoyah of South Africa,’’ he said.
For Cornelius Ronoh, Malema (43) still has a long way to go and has the advantage of being young compared to Raila Odinga now 79.
“I have seen some people saying Malema is the Raila of South Africa, and they think being Raila is a failure. What a pity. I would remind them that Raila Odinga is an institution, the enigma who is above the law. Julius Malema is only 43; time is still on his side compared to his competitors,” Ronoh said on X.
South African Election
South Africa’s 2024 elections are the most competitive polls the country has seen in 30 years, since the end of Apartheid Rule in 1994.
The incumbent, President Cyril Ramaphosa is fighting to secure a second term amid the dipping popularity of the ruling party, African National Congress – ANC.
More than 50 political parties are registered in South Africa, with the law also allowing independent candidates to contest for elective positions.
Democratic Alliance – DA is the biggest opposition party, while Malema’s EFF is third.
Malema, a fiery politician, formed the party after ANC expelled him. He once served as ANC’s youth leader. Former South African President Jacob Zuma is leading the MK party popularly known as uMkhonto weSizwe, which means Spear of the Nation.
Preliminary results put ANC ahead, but with clear indications that Ramaphosa would have to form a coalition government. South Africa’s voters elect 400 members to the National Assembly who then elect the president.
On Friday, May 31, Malema promised to remain steadfast in fighting for South Africans.
“We accept this mandate with humility and are determined to continue our responsibilities to serve you,” he said.
He added, “Our resolute commitment to fighting for economic freedom for black people remains unshaken and we are privileged to have the opportunity to work towards this generational mission in our lifetime.”
