Pam Bondi issued a measured but notable message to President Donald Trump following her abrupt firing, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve while underscoring the accomplishments of her tenure.
Bondi posted a message on X after Trump fired her as attorney general. The dismissal happened during a late-night meeting at the White House on April 1, 2026.
Bondi said she would spend the next month transitioning duties at the Justice Department to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. She plans to leave for a job in the private sector after that.
“Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history,” Bondi wrote on X.
She listed results from her time in office since February 2025, including the lowest murder rate in 125 years, terrorism convictions against Antifa members, actions against gangs and cartels, and 24 favorable Supreme Court rulings.
Firing follows internal dispute
Trump told Bondi she would leave the Justice Department shortly before his speech on Iran, according to a senior administration source. Bondi, 60, asked Trump to let her stay and give her more time, the source told the Daily Mail.

“She was unhappy and tried to change his mind,” the source said. Bondi stayed at the White House for Trump’s speech and then flew to her home in Florida.
The decision came in part because Trump believes Bondi tipped off Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell about FBI plans to release documents on his past relationship with Christine Fang, an alleged Chinese spy.
The source said the White House was not pleased with her intervention due to her personal friendship with Swalwell.
Swalwell denied receiving any advance notice. “We had no heads-up by anyone in the administration. None. These stories would be laughable if not so outrageous,” he told the Daily Mail.
Bondi previously worked as a lobbyist and partner at Ballard Partners in Washington for six years. Her time as attorney general faced criticism from some Trump supporters over her handling of Jeffrey Epstein files.

She is the second Cabinet official Trump has fired in the past month. Blanche will serve as acting attorney general until a replacement is named.
Why this matters
The abrupt firing shows ongoing changes inside the Trump administration as it deals with internal conflicts and public criticism.
Bondi’s exit comes during a period of low approval ratings for the administration at 33 percent, according to recent polling references in reports.
It also highlights tensions between the Justice Department and White House over the release of sensitive investigative documents involving political figures.
Bondi’s move to the private sector ends a high-profile government role that began after her lobbying work and included travel with Trump to key events like Supreme Court arguments.
