The Trump administration has dispatched Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to competitive House districts ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, using his “Take Back Your Health” tour to promote the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) agenda.
Kennedy has visited swing areas in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Michigan, and Wisconsin in recent weeks.
His stops include Clear Creek, Wis., in Rep. Derrick Van Orden’s district; Thornton, Colo., represented by Rep. Gabe Evans; and Charlotte, Mich., home to Rep. Tom Barrett. All three Republican lawmakers are defending vulnerable seats. Kennedy also appeared in Toledo, Ohio, in the district of Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur.
Health Agenda in Swing Districts
The visits have focused on issues including nutrition, food additives, fitness, addiction, and public health reforms.
Kennedy has promoted administration efforts involving dietary guideline changes, restrictions on artificial ingredients, infant formula safety, and reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods.
White House officials have described the appearances as policy outreach rather than campaign events.
However, the locations, many in closely contested congressional districts, have drawn attention over their potential political impact ahead of the elections.
White House spokesperson Kush Desai said President Donald Trump’s MAHA pledge created a movement involving parents, educators, researchers, food companies, and local leaders.
“Secretary Kennedy has already delivered major progress on the MAHA agenda, from cracking down on artificial ingredients to overhauling the Dietary Guidelines for Americans,” Desai said.
Republican Midterm Strategy
Republicans face a challenging midterm landscape as Democrats look to make the 2026 elections a referendum on Trump’s administration and regain control of the House.
The White House views Kennedy as a valuable political messenger because of his national recognition and ability to appeal to voters concerned about chronic disease, food quality, and health policy.
David Murphy, a former finance director for Kennedy’s presidential campaign, said Kennedy has a strong connection with audiences on the campaign trail.

“Bobby’s good on the campaign trail. He connects sincerely with his audience most of the time,” Murphy said.
Jeff Hutt, a former national field director for Kennedy’s campaign, also described him as one of the administration’s more popular figures.
Ohio-based Republican strategist Mark Weaver said Kennedy brings unique appeal compared with other members of Trump’s Cabinet.
“When you look at the Trump cabinet, having Bobby Kennedy go out and campaign is a net plus for the Republicans,” Weaver said.
MAHA Movement Targets Health and Food Issues
The MAHA movement emerged from the political alliance between Kennedy and Trump and focuses on issues such as chronic illness, childhood health, chemical additives in food, and concerns over corporate influence in federal agencies.
Kennedy, a longtime Democrat before endorsing Trump in 2024, helped the Republican ticket reach some independent and crossover voters.
Polling shows mixed views of the movement. A recent KFF Health Tracking Poll found that 41 percent of adults support MAHA. Among supporters, 65 percent identified as Republican or Republican-leaning independents, 21 percent as Democrat or Democratic-leaning, and 10 percent as unaffiliated.
