Uganda Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has confirmed the detention of Eddie Mutwe, the chief bodyguard of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
This confirmation follows an earlier statement by NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, who announced on Wednesday, April 30, that Mutwe had been “kidnapped by armed men” from Mbalwa in Mukono District.
His whereabouts had remained unknown since then.
In a series of posts on X, General Muhoozi made remarks suggesting that Mutwe was in custody and had undergone changes during his detention.
Muhoozi Boasts After Detaining Bobi Wine’s Bodyguard
Muhoozi went on to brag that Eddie Mutwe was looking very smart these days, claiming that the military officers had “tuned him well.”
He also alleged that Mutwe salutes President Yoweri Museveni’s portrait every morning before breakfast.
“I captured NUP’s military commander like a grasshopper (Nsenene). If they keep provoking us, we shall discipline them even more,” Kainerugaba posted on X, formerly Twitter.
“He is in my basement. If you see Eddie’s head now, he looks like an egg — totally clean,” he added.

The general further stated that Mutwe would only be released if President Yoweri Museveni gave the order.
“I can’t release Eddie now. It would be unfair to both him and me. He is learning Runyankore (a Bantu language spoken in southwestern Uganda), and we are both training for Bobi Wine,” he said.
“I will only release Eddie to Mzee when he gives me the order. By then, he will have learned the history of the NRA/UPDF and will understand that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is a party that represents the entire country. It can never be defeated.”
In a photo shared by Muhoozi, Mutwe appeared with a clean-shaven head and beard and looked tortured.
The Uganda CDF warned that if Bobi Wine insults or speaks about Museveni’s family again, he will make things even worse for Eddie Mutwe.
While Muhoozi did not explicitly state where Mutwe is being held or under what legal framework, the statements have been widely interpreted as confirmation that he is under the control of security personnel.

No Charges, No Statement as Bobi Wine Rallies Support Over Mutwe’s Detention
As of Thursday, May 1, no official statement had been issued by the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), or any other government agency regarding Eddie Mutwe’s status.
No charges have been preferred, whatsoever.
NUP officials have called for clarity on the matter and demanded that Mutwe be produced in court if he is in lawful custody.
“This is a clear indication that our colleague is being held. We expect the state to follow the law,” one party official said.
Mutwe was kidnapped by men dressed in civilian wear and military fatigue on Sunday April 27 evening at Kiwango trading centre, Goma Division, Mukono municipality. Mutwe and others had held a meeting at Namweezi village, a stone’s throw from Kiwango trading centre, from where he was captured.
Bobi Wine has called on Ugandans to join them today, at 2:00 p.m., at Makerere–Kavule for a Solidarity Gathering.
He described the event as a non-partisan opportunity to unite.
“Friends of Eddie and all Ugandans of good conscience, let us come together in solidarity—not just with Eddie, but with all political prisoners!” he said.
