The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has published its latest statistical release, which shows the average lending and deposit interest rates for commercial banks in April 2026.
CBK data released on June 4 shows the loan-to-savings rate comparison for 38 licensed commercial banks in Kenya in April 2026.
Additionally, the data from the Central Bank of Kenya compares the loan and savings rates across the 38 commercial banks from December 2025 to April 2026.
According to the CBK data, the average lending rate across the banking sector in 2026 had only slight changes.
Further, the data revealed that most commercial banks continued to charge higher interest rates on unsecured and personal loans.
Corporate and asset-backed banks, on the other hand, had lower lending rates than commercial banks in the data.
In addition, tier-one banks, including Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Equity Bank, Co-operative Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank, maintained competitive lending rates ranging from 15 % to 16% in the CBK data.
Commercial banks’ lending rate data from the CBK show that most banks in Kenya had rates between 10.8% and 18.8% in April.
In April, the overall lending rate in the banks was at 14.69%, a decline from 14.70% recorded in March and 14.78 % in February, according to the CBK publication.

Commercial Banks Lending Rates
Citibank N.A. Kenya recorded the lowest lending rate at approximately 10.80%, while Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited’s lending rate was at 11.64%.
Other banks that were among the lowest lenders included Habib Bank A.G. Zurich and Stanbic Bank Kenya Limited.
In contrast to low lending rates, Access Bank (Kenya) PLC recorded lending rates above 18 percent.
In addition, Bank of Africa Kenya Limited and SBM Bank Kenya Limited were also among the top commercial banks with high lending rates, with the rates ranging between 17.5% and 18.5%.

CBK Data on Bank Deposit Rates and Savings
In April 2026, the CBK data indicate that deposit rates increased as compared to March 2026, with the overall deposit rates ranging between 3% and 11%.
Further, the data showed that several commercial banks increased their savings and fixed deposit rates.
Among banks with the lowest deposit return were Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited with 3.02% and Citibank N.A. at 4%.
NCBA Bank Kenya PLC’s deposit rate was recorded at 11.01%, while those of Kingdom Bank Limited and Development Bank of Kenya Limited were above 9%.
