An ambulance ferrying a patient has been hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Mandera County.
According to reports, the Ambulance was moving from Kutulo heading to Mandera county referral hospital when hit by an IED at around Ireusuki village Elwak North ward in Mandera South constituency.
The driver, identified as Suleiman, sustained an injury to his hand.
However, the patient and other passengers on board escaped unharmed.
They are currently at Iresuki dispensary.
Mandera Bus Attack
There have been reported cases of attacks in Mandera and Northeastern Kenya in recent months. The gunmen opened fire, spraying bullets that burst a tire, shattered windows, and left bullet holes in various parts of the bus.
The Salama bus was attacked between Bori Junction and Dadach Lakole while it was headed from Moyale to Nairobi.
Reports indicate that the attackers might have been members of the Shifta group, a known militant faction in the region.
This incident followed the killing of seven people after armed men set a lorry on fire at Eledimtu along the Forolle-Turbi Road in Marsabit on August 13, 2024.
Six passengers and a driver were killed in the incident, which occurred just a few kilometers from the Ethiopian border.
The incident also followed the disappearance of a police OCS, whose Land Cruiser was hijacked by gunmen on Saturday, August 10, in Mandera County.
The Deputy County Commissioner for Mandera East, Patrick Meso, was attacked and his driver killed on the spot.
Additionally, suspected Al-Shabaab militants launched an attack in Mandera County on July 12, killing four security officers.

Other Cases of Attacks
In another incident on April 29 in Elwak Town, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded, killing ten people.
On March 25, terrorists struck Mandera Town, killing three people, including two police officers.
Police Commissioner Alex Mbuvi Munguti from Mandera Police Station and Cyprian Kuta from QRU Arabia lost their lives after an explosion at Fish Point Hotel.

Governor’s Statement
Speaking after the June attack, Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif termed the attacks as cowardly
Khalif urged Mandera residents to remain united as the authorities take the necessary measures to fight terrorist groups.
He stated that the aim of the attackers is to create fear and division among peaceful Mandera community.
“Our collective commitment to matters of peace and security remains firm despite such cowardly attacks by terror outfits whose aim is to create fear and division,” he said.
