Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has broken the silence over the drama, describing the altercation with Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai as an unprovoked attack and a serious threat to his life.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 3, at a restaurant along Lenana Road in Kilimani, where Owino had attended a lunch meeting with a senior clergyman.
“I wish to inform the public of a disturbing incident that occurred yesterday, which I consider a direct attack on my person and a grave threat to my life,” Babu Owino said in a statement released after the incident.
Encounter at the Restaurant
Owino stated that he arrived at the restaurant at about 3:40 p.m. after driving himself, having released his security detail for the Christmas holidays. He said the meeting with the clergyman lasted about 20 minutes and that the confrontation occurred as he was leaving.

According to Babu, he approached a nearby table to greet acquaintances, including Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai. He said Alai immediately accused him of being behind the alleged social media attacks targeting Alai’s wife. Owino denied the allegation, stating that he does not know Alai’s wife and has no reason to involve family members in political disputes.
“It is not my style to advance my politics by attacking women. I hold respected ladies in the highest regard,” Owino said.
Alleged Assault and Police Report
In his statement, he claimed the situation escalated when Alai became aggressive, pushed him, drew a pistol, and struck him on the chest and jaw in the presence of other patrons. He said that after a brief pause, Alai again turned hostile and poured water on him, prompting concern among those at the restaurant.
“I stood my ground and urged him to calm down, asking him to explain what wrong I had committed to warrant such a violent reaction,” the statement read.

Babu Owino added that to avoid a physical confrontation, he left the premises and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station. He described the incident as a clear threat to his life and called on authorities to investigate and take action in accordance with the law.
Claims of Sustained Harassment
Babu Owino further alleged that the incident forms part of a broader pattern of threats and attacks against him, which he said began after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He referenced an earlier incident during Odinga’s burial in Siaya, where he claimed goons were organised to attack him.
“As leaders, we are expected to set an example for society,” He said, adding that while he remains calm, it should not be mistaken for fear, and that he would continue to defend his life, dignity, and the rule of law.
