The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recovered more stolen vehicles after the detectives launched a countrywide crackdown on vehicle theft syndicates.
In a statement on Saturday, January 27, DCI revealed that it recovered stolen vehicles in Nakuru County following a lead from suspects who were arrested on January 26, 2024.
“DCI sleuths deployed to bring to their knees all syndicates implicated in the vice proceeded to Nakuru county in a bid to effect more accomplices and recover stolen motor vehicles,” read part of the statement.
Detectives divulged that the arrests were made after interrogations on the notorious motor vehicle theft suspects arrested on Friday in Nairobi and Nyeri counties.
The statement further indicated that the sleuths pounced on a suspect at 58 suburb area of Nakuru city.
DCI make arrests
He was found in the possession of a suspected stolen Toyota Vitz vehicle, believed to have been stolen from a Nairobi city dweller.
Following the arrest, the officers then ambushed a second male suspect who according to the sleuths, is a renowned suspect.

The second suspect was apprehended while driving a stolen numberless Toyota Probox vehicle.
This led to the detectives conducting a search from the vehicle’s chassis which revealed its registration number.
However, the suspect who has had occasional confrontations with the law in the past, managed to dart away leaving the vehicle.
The detectives revealed that they have since launched efforts to have the suspect in police custody.
Today’s operation saw yet another vehicle recovery witnessed as the detectives continue to wage war on motor vehicle theft syndicates in the country.
According to DCI, the crackdown was launched following a spike in reported cases of stolen motor vehicles.
The theft has been rampant around various residential and social parking yards within Nairobi region and neighboring counties.
Motor vehicle theft syndicate
On January 26,2024, detectives drawn from the Nairobi regional Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, arrested a male suspect at his residence in Thika.
The intelligence-led operation mounted by the detectives saw them arrest a prime suspect in the theft syndicate.
He was caught in possession of a stolen vehicle and upon interrogation, he led the officers to Kenyatta Road in Juja, Kiambu County.
The detectives made yet another arrest as they ambushed the suspect’s accomplice.
DCI divulged that they also arrested the accomplice found in possession of a suspected stolen white Toyota Fielder.

“On further interrogation, the suspects confessed to have earlier stolen a red Isuzu DMAX within Kayole, which they sold to a buyer in Nyeri through one of their accomplices,” revealed DCI.
The team further proceeded to Narumoru where the said vehicle was recovered while being driven by the third suspect who was also arrested and escorted to DCI offices in Nairobi.
After investigative interviewing of the suspects, a fourth accomplice was cornered and arrested within Githurai.
The saga didn’t end there as the fourth accomplice then led the sleuths to Limuru’s Flyover area where another partner in the syndicate was put into custody.
He was found in possession of a suspected stolen Toyota Corolla fitted with registration fake registration number.
All the vehicles recovered are being detained at DCI offices as the detectives continue to interrogate the suspects.
The sleuths further revealed that the operation is on high alert as they seek to bring the unbecoming trend of car thievery to a stop.
