Four people have been confirmed dead following a tragic accident involving two lorries at Migaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred on the night of Monday, November 4, at the notorious blackspot near Sachangwan.
The accident involving two trailers headed in opposite directions happened when one of the lorries ferrying firewood that was headed to Nakuru lost control, colliding with the oncoming Canter ferrying tomatoes.
Migaa area chief Zachary Monari said four people died on the spot including three aboard the truck ferrying firewood, while one survived with injuries.
The injured was taken to Coptic Hospital in Salgaa.
Following the accident, witnesses reported traffic jam along the road, with vehicles forced to take other routes.
Nakuru-Eldoret highway accidents
The accident involving at Migaa is among road crashes that have been witnessed at the blackspot for decades.
Accidents along the stretch have claimed hundreds of lives and maimed many.
Earlier in August, another road crash occurred a few meters within the Migaa blackspot in Molo claiming the lives of thirteen people.
Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, who visited the scene, reported that the August 20 early morning incident involved a 56-seater Coast Bus Limited Public Service Vehicle (PSV) bus and a saloon car.

55 others were injured in the incident that happened near the magic wall that was constructed to prevent accidents along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
The Migaa crash is among incidents of road carnage which have been reported within the last three months that have left behind casualties and fatalities.
On October 31, several passengers were injured in a road accident involving a PSV bus operating under Royal Liner Express Limited and several trailers along the Bungoma-Malaba highway.

Road crashes in 2024
Royal Liner Express while confirming the incident in a statement said the accident happened less than 5 kilometers from Malaba town.
The company said that the trailer lost its brakes and ended up ramming into the bus that was stationary.
The National Police Service (NPS) in data released earlier in September revealed that a total number of 3,369 people lost their lives in road accidents between January and September 16 this year.

The figures mark a slight increase in road fatalities compared to the same period last year when 3,151 people died in traffic accidents.
Of the total fatalities, 1,281 were pedestrians, followed by 825 motorcyclists, 654 passengers, and 281 drivers.
The data also revealed that a total of 16,979 people were affected by road accidents in the first nine months of 2024.
