Four people have lost their lives following a grisly road accident along the busy Nakuru – Eldoret Highway.
According to a police statement, the accident happened at around 0500hrs, on Monday December 18, 2023.
This was after a Nakuru-bound matatu belonging to Msamaria Shuttle limited lost control, colliding head on with an oncoming 60-seater bus at Hill Tea Area along Eldoret- Nakuru highway.
“The matatu was carrying 16 passengers at the time of the accident which claimed the lives of the driver and three other passengers that died on the spot,” police statement read.
Additionally, nine other passengers were seriously injured, and are currently receiving treatment at Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital.

Nonetheless, the bodies of the deceased were also moved to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital.
Other Accidents
A Nairobi-bound passenger service vehicle caught fire on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Makueni County on Monday December 18.
The fire was suspected to have been caused by faulty wiring in the bus.
According to reports, the 44-seater Buscar Bus Company bus was carrying 27 passengers when the incident occurred in the Mogingo district.
However, there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the incident because all passengers were successfully evacuated.
Furthermore, case was reported to Mtito Andei police station as a fire incident report.
Makueni & Londiani Accidents
On Saturday, December 16, another road accident occurred in Makueni County claiming 10 lives on the spot.
Police said seven others sustained injuries and were rushed to Mbooni subcounty hospital where they were admitted.
Sources said the 14-seater matatu involved in the crash had 17 passengers at the time of the accident.
According to recent report, two more people died as they were receiving treatment thereby raising the death toll to 12.

Similarly, on Thursday December 14, a 66-seater bus was involved in a fatal road accident in Londiani, Kericho County.
The Kenya Red Cross reported that 40 people were seriously injured during the accident.
Police Reports
On its part, the National Police Service has urged motorists and all other road users to exercise extreme caution while on the roads especially during the rainy season.
Notably, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) report, 2,124 lives were lost through road accidents in the period between January and July 2023.
Nonetheless, the National Police Service reported that 4,026 Kenyans lost their lives in road accidents between January 1, 2023, and December 12, 2023.
