Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali was involved in a grisly road accident along the Meru-Embu highway.
Confirming the incident, Embu West Commander Solomon Wamae indicated that Mwenda was airlifted to Karen Hospital for further treatment.
Ali’s two-year-old child and another passenger sustained severe injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.
However, his six-year-old child who was with him during the accident succumbed to injuries.
The Subaru vehicle that the deputy speaker and his family were travelling in burst into flames and was completely destroyed.
Further, Wamae indicated that the accident occurred when the Deputy Speaker’s vehicle, a Subaru Legacy collided head-on with a Toyota double cabin at Kivwe village in Embu County.
“It was a fatal accident, but the Deputy Speaker survived, and he was flown to Nairobi together with other survivors who were aboard his car,” said the Commander.

Witnesses Narrate Accident Ordeal
Witnesses at the scene narrated that they hey heard a loud bang and rushed to the scene to try and put out the fire.
Well-wishers blocked the road as they helped rescue the deputy speaker and his family.
According to the police incident report Mwenda was in the front passenger seat. He sustained a deep cut on the forehead and dislocated his left knee.
His driver, 35-year-old Michael Mwongera, 35, was also injured during the highway accident.

Chavakali Student and 11 Others Dies in Accident
In separate incidences, a student from Chavakali High School and 11 other passengers died in road accidents during the Easter holidays.
The Easy Coach bus was headed to Nairobi carrying passengers among them students from Chavakali High School who were travelling home for the April holiday season.
Elsewhere in Makueni County, 10 people died in another road accident involving multiple vehicles at the Salama area along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
The vehicles involved in the incident were an 18-seater matatu from the Spanish shuttle fleet, which serves various long-distance routes, two trucks, a sedan, and a 14-seater matatu registered under Naekana Sacco.
