The country has been plunged into mourning again following the death of Former Shinyalu Member of Parliament Daniel Lyula Khamasi. His death came days after the deaths of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and former Likuyani MP Enock Kibunguchy.
Khamasi, who represented Shinyalu Constituency, died on Tuesday, 30 December 2025, while undergoing treatment in Nairobi after illness.
He served two consecutive terms in the National Assembly, first elected in 1997 and re‑elected in 2002.
Kakamega County Governor Mourns Former Shinyalu MP
In a post shared on December 30, Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa mourned the death of former Shinyalu MP.

“I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Hon. Daniel Khamasi, former MP for Shinyalu.
He was a dedicated servant whose contribution to Shinyalu will be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Shinyalu,” he said.
Daniel Lyula Khamasi, born on 25 August 1946, served as Member of Parliament for Shinyalu Constituency first elected on a Ford Kenya ticket in 1997 and re‑elected in 2002 on a National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) ticket.
Serving two terms as MP for Shinyalu Constituency from 1997 to 2007, he was succeeded in 2007 by Charles Lugano after electoral defeat.
Former Lugari MPs Die Previously
Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy died as several politicians and people close to his family broke the news on Tuesday, December 23, morning, with notable figures sending their condolences to his family.
“Another tree has fallen. The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again,” ODM Communications Director Philip Etale said.
The ODM Communications Director said the news came even before the burial of former Lugari MP and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo, whom Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy succeeded in the 2002 General Election. He noted that the region had once again been plunged into mourning.

Dr. Kibunguchy died at an Eldoret hospital on Monday night after a period of illness.
His death came just days after the passing of Cyrus Jirongo, who also served as a Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament for Lugari, marking a painful moment for the region.
According to Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo, the former KANU Youth Wing Leader died following a head-on collision on the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.
According to a report from the Naivasha Police Base Commander dated December 13, the accident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. when Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz, registration KCZ 305C, crashed with a bus along the busy highway.
“At approximately 0300 hours on 13/12/2025, a fatal road traffic accident occurred at Karai along the Nakuru-Naivasha Highway. The accident involved a Mercedes-Benz motor vehicle, registration KCZ 305C, driven by Cyrus Jirongo, aged 64, traveling from Nakuru towards Nairobi,” read part the police report.
The car, according to the police report, was traveling from Nakuru towards Nairobi when it veered out of its lane and collided with an oncoming MAN bus.
Jirongo sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Naivasha Sub-County Morgue, awaiting autopsy, while the vehicles involved have been impounded for further inspection.
