The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has recommended the appointment of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga as its National chairperson.
In a statement on August 9, ODM said the decision was part of the resolutions made after a central Committee meeting held to deliberate on matters affecting the leadership of the Party.
In addition, the Committee has proposed the appointment of Kisii Governor Simba Arati, his Mombasa Counterpart Abdulswamad Nassir and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi to be the deputy party leaders.
“The meeting has resolved to make the following recommendations to the National Executive Committee in order to fill these vacancies; Gladys Wanga as the National Chairperson,” reads the statement in part.
If confirmed, Wanga will take over the role from the outgoing ODM Chair, John Mbadi, who was recently appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury.
The party announced that the Central Committee has proposed three names for the position of Deputy Party Leaders. This marks a change from the previous structure where ODM had only two Deputy Party Leaders.
“We will be making a recommendation to the NEC and the NGC to make the necessary changes to our constitution to reflect this,” the statement adds.
