UPDATE: Kenya Airways has issued a public update on flights that were diverted in the early morning hours from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The Airline has indicated that all the diverted flights have been landed safely at JKIA.
Additionally, KQ had indicated that it is working to ensure normal flight schedules following the interruptions.
“Further to our earlier update on diversions of our flights due to severe weather conditions (fog) that impacted visibility,
“We wish to inform our customers that the fog has significantly reduced, and visibility has improved. As a result, all the diverted flights have now landed safely at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.”
Kenya Airways has diverted flights that were supposed to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the morning.
In a statement, the airline has announced that some flights that were supposed to land at the airport in the morning have been diverted to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Additionally, KQ has warned of delayed departures and arrivals in Nairobi explaining that the move was due to bad weather.
“We wish to inform our customers that we have this morning, diverted to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro, some of our flights that were scheduled to land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,” the statement read in part.
The statement has explained that fog experienced in the morning resulted in poor visibility. However, the airline has assured customers that it is prioritizing their wellbeing.
“This is due to poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions. As a result, we expect some delays in departures and arrivals in Nairobi.
“We understand that this may cause inconvenience, but please be assured that we have taken all necessary safety measures and the well-being of our crew, and customers are our number one priority,” added the statement.

Kenyans Alarmed by Diverted Planes
Earlier, Kenyans raised concerns after noticing that flights were failing to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Bravin Yuri, a user on X, monitored flights through the Flight radar monitoring platform and noticed that a flight from Accra and Entebe had been diverted.
“Most Flights are not entering JKIA today. I don’t know why. This is Qatar Airways from Doha, It has been flying in circles around the airport.
“KQ from Accra was this morning diverted to Mombasa and Uganda Airlines from Entebbe went all the way back,” he stated.

Recent Kenya Airways Flight Disruptions
Earlier on July 22, Kenya Airways (KQ) has advised passengers to arrive at the airport four hours earlier than their scheduled departure in anticipation of planned protests that took place on July 23.
Also, it warned of anticipated traffic disruptions on major roads leading to JKIA.
On July 19, the airline reported a global mass IT outage affecting airlines, television and radio stations, banks among other businesses worldwide. Kenya Airways said that the outage had affected its booking system and informed customers to expect slow service delivery.
The matter was however resolved later in the day after restoration of the global system outage.
